Formula One Preview: Hungarian GP @ Hungaroring

07/30/2011

Yes I do know that it is Friday and I am previewing a race I am sorry for that but since I only activated the blog yesterday this is the only time I have to do the F1 preview for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday. When I was at Triple League Racing, we had Eric Hall doing the Formula One previews, he is amazing writer and one of my mentors to get into my own blog. He has taught me a lot about writing in the past month since he joined Triple League Racing. My Formula One previews will consist of 4 things:

  1. Stats from Last Year’s Race
  2. Who Will be in the Points (Top 10)
  3. The passing zones and DRS Zone (s)
  4. My Predictions- Pole, Podium, Fastest Lap)

Last Year’s Race Stats:

Pole:  Sebastian Vettel- 1:18.773

Fastest Lap: Sebastian Vettel- 1:22.362 on Lap 70

Podium:

  1. Mark Webber
  2. Fernando Alonso
  3. Sebastian Vettel

Points Finishers This Weekend:

  • Lewis Hamilton- McLaren Mercedes
  • Jenson Button- McLaren Mercedes
  • Felipe Massa- Ferrari
  • Fernando Alonso- Ferrari
  • Sebastian Vettel- Red Bull
  • Mark Webber- Red Bull
  • Nico Rosberg- Mercedes
  • Michael Schumacher- Mercedes
  • Nick Heidfield- Lotus Renault GP
  • Paul di Resta- Force India

I see three real passing zones

Passing Zones/DRS Zone(s): Shown in the picture above I see about three real passing zones. The first one is down the fronstraightaway before divebombing for position going into the tight turn 1. Turn 1 is just like the first turn at the former CART/Champ Car track in Cleveland. Expect a lot of locked up brakes going into that turn at almost 200 mph. Second Passing zone is from turns 4 through 7. This section of the track is mostly a long straightaway with very quick kinks in it. Also this could be dangerous going into turn 7 because of going over 180 mph into a tight hairpin. The last passing zone I see on the Hungaroring is the straightaway that connects turns 13 and 14. The cars probably will be averaging 160 mph going into the 90 degree turn 15. I see the Drag Reduction System (DRS) being activated in 2 spots. The first spot is the fronstraightaway which I listed as a passing zone. The second is also a passing opportunity turns 4 through 7.

Hopefully in the "passing zones" we see this kind of racing

 Predictions:

Pole: Lewis Hamilton: because he was very fast in Free Practice #2 this morning and is always good at the Hungaroring.

Fastest Lap: Mark Webber or Sebastian Vettel:  There is no doubt that the Red Bull Racing Team powered by Renault engines and there RB7 chassis is the best car in the garage. One of there drivers will set fast lap but I don’t know what one.

Podium:

  1. Lewis Hamilton- Surges to victory after some masterful pit work by the McLaren Mercedes team.
  2. Fernando Alonso- Steadily works his way up the pack and sticks around with the Red Bull’s and McLaren’s
  3. Sebastian Vettel- A late race surge including setting fastest lap will have him take the last podium spot.

I hope you (readers) read the first ever Formula One preview for Racing Mania 101.
